DESCRIPTION:The Digital Preservation Coalition (Aus) is hosting a series of ‘Just Keep the Bits’ workshops on risk management and digital preservation in Melbourne\, Canberra\, Sydney and Brisbane from 4 – 14 September 2023. \n\nGeneral\n\n\n\nJust keep the bits! A digital preservation workshop about risk management and digital preservation \nDigital preservation is a complex challenge with many different facets and so many things that can go wrong! How do you design an approach to digital preservation that will meet these challenges? Or if you’ve already embarked on your digital preservation journey\, how do you validate and fine tune what you’re already doing? In short\, how do you: “just keep the bits”? \nThis workshop will dig into the various threats our digital content faces\, from technical breakdown to cyber attack. It will introduce a simple risk assessment based approach to document\, analyse and offer routes to mitigate these risks\, breaking the challenge down into manageable and understandable components. The workshop will take a collaborative approach and will combine an initial presentation with plenary and group based discussions and exercises. \nThe workshop will give participants the chance to discuss and learn about the most challenging questions in digital preservation\, such as: how much digital preservation is enough or what’s an acceptable level of risk? Early booking is recommended as we expect this event will be popular. Due to the limited number of places\, DPC members can register two attendees for an event. DESCRIPTION:ALIA Digitisation and Preservation: Engagement\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nHear speakers from Trove\, Wikimedia\, and the Biodiversity Heritage Library discuss internal and external engagement for digitised collections.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nA significant portion digitisation practitioners’ time is dedicated to digitising and cataloguing collections\, but it is crucial to assess whether we effectively connect\, communicate\, and collaborate with others to truly promote the significance of these items. With this challenge in mind\, the ALIA Digitisation and Preservation group will be holding a live webinar on Wednesday 13th of September at 1 pm AEST.
