DESCRIPTION:The Digital Preservation Coalition (Aus) is hosting a series of ‘Just Keep the Bits’ workshops on risk management and digital preservation in Melbourne\, Canberra\, Sydney and Brisbane from 4 – 14 September 2023. \n\nGeneral\n\n\n\nJust keep the bits! A digital preservation workshop about risk management and digital preservation \nDigital preservation is a complex challenge with many different facets and so many things that can go wrong! How do you design an approach to digital preservation that will meet these challenges? Or if you’ve already embarked on your digital preservation journey\, how do you validate and fine tune what you’re already doing? In short\, how do you: “just keep the bits”? \nThis workshop will dig into the various threats our digital content faces\, from technical breakdown to cyber attack. It will introduce a simple risk assessment based approach to document\, analyse and offer routes to mitigate these risks\, breaking the challenge down into manageable and understandable components. The workshop will take a collaborative approach and will combine an initial presentation with plenary and group based discussions and exercises. \nThe workshop will give participants the chance to discuss and learn about the most challenging questions in digital preservation\, such as: how much digital preservation is enough or what’s an acceptable level of risk? SUMMARY:Heritage of the everyday: overlooked and undervalued?
DESCRIPTION:This Symposium will examine methods\, tools and approaches that engage with ‘everyday heritage’\, or the values associated with ordinary people and everyday life. It includes presentations and panel discussions on heritage and social value\, digital methods and heritage industry practice. The Symposium’s Keynote Speaker is Professor Sian Jones\, University of Stirling\, UK\, an interdisciplinary scholar with expertise in cultural heritage\, as well as on the role of the past in the production of power\, identity\, and sense of place.
