Spotlight: The Primary Source – A New Hub for GLAM Collection News and Research Support

by | Apr 8, 2025 | Blogs, Preservation

If you’ve ever struggled to keep up with what’s new in the world of Australian galleries, libraries, archives and museums (GLAM), The Primary Source might be just what you need. Developed by historian and digital humanist Tim Sherratt, this recently launched site aggregates updates from GLAM collections and provides a space for researchers to share their work, ask questions, and discover useful tools and resources.

With the decline of Twitter/X and the scattered nature of institutional blogs and feeds, The Primary Source fills a growing gap. Hosted on the Discourse platform, it includes categories for collection news, research updates, helpful tools, and questions – making it a practical, community-driven resource.

Users can post directly or contribute via Zotero, and posts are also shared via RSS and Mastodon. Whether you’re digitising, cataloguing, researching or just trying to stay informed, The Primary Source is a valuable new space for connection and collaboration in the GLAM community.
